MONSTER MUTT Kevin King

OVERKILL EVOLUTION Mike Vaters II
WHIPLASH Brianna Mahon
I have been to the show in the SuperDome and I must say that the show in New Orleans, in a bigger arena, has a totally different vibe. It is much more exciting than shows at smaller arenas. The trucks were able to do lots more because they have the room! So, it is definitely more enjoyable for this boy-mama than the previous shows I have attended. They even had a wall that they used to do backflips! (And the crowd goes wild!)
So, the last time I sat at this DISPLAY of testosterone and dirt and noise, I started thinking about why my kids love it. I have friends who live in a big city north of here and I know that while the “suburbanite” parents would not like the idea, their 8 year old son would be in HEAVEN! So, this post is dedicated to them! 5 Reasons that they should take him to Monster Jam (including some tips for first timers!)
HERE are 5 reasons that you should take your kids to MONSTER JAM!
1. – It’s Loud. So. Very. Loud. (And the kids love it)
I have developed sensitivity in my ears in the past few years. I credit an awful sinus infection. But, I just can’t handle certain pitches and volumes. Monster Jam is L-O-U-D. The smaller the arena, the louder it is. So, you MUST bring protection for your ears. My husband uses ear plugs at work so we always bring a handful of new earplugs to share with any kids around us who may not be prepared. They also sell headphones that look like monster truck tires at the show. They are not cheap, but they are great souvenir that can be used and hopefully used again!
2.- It’s Dirty. So. Much. Dirt. (And the kids love it)
How much, you ask? Well the typical Monster Jam track is made of 7500 tons of dirt. That’s about 300 truck loads. (That’s almost as much as my kids track in my house each day!)
About 1500 work hours are used to create and take down the track. And you can get right down in that dirt if you attend the Pit Party before the show! We always grab free pit passes at the local Ford dealers. This saves about $40-60!
3. – It’s Tires! Very. Large. Tires!
When my boys were toddlers, they were obsessed with ANYTHING that moved! Cars, trucks, firetrucks, airplanes, tractors, and of course MONSTER TRUCKS! If it had tires, they were all over it! So, again, I must stress the importance of the Pit Party.
Each Monster Jam truck tire is custom made. They must be 66” high and 43” wide. The average Monster Jam truck team will go through eight tires in one year!
You can get up close and personal to these massive tires, AND the trucks AND meet the drivers! Take pics with them, get their autograph, the whole thing! Due to the Causeway being closed, we didn’t make it to this Pit Party, but we have done that in the past and they LOVE IT.
4. – It’s a Southern kid’s rite of passage.
My kids were in the Men’s room with my husband and saw friends from school and karate class. I saw not less than 10 of my personal Facebook friends that were also in attendance with their kids. I have friends who put tickets in their kids’ stockings every Christmas (The New Orleans show is usually in January or February) and that’s a great idea! So, I think every little boy (and girl if they are interested AT ALL) should go at least once! Lots of their friends will be talking about it at school the next day. It’s not super expensive and they will remember it forever!
5. – My favorite – It’s NOT A SCREEN
My kids sit through 2 ½ hours of this show with no electronic stimulation. They are engaged with each other, with us, with the show and even with others around us. They can tell you everything that happened when it’s over. They know who won (there was a winner???) and who wrecked. They are totally tuned in to real life in the moment. And that, my friends, is a rare and refreshing site these days.
**Now, if you have little girls, don’t leave them out. There was actually a female driving at this show! There are PLENTY of women and girls at the show! And I see as many grown women jumping and screaming as I do little boys (and big boys, too). So, don’t keep them home.
Tickets for the 2019 show are on sale NOW! However, one of you lucky mamas will get to tell your kids (Ok, and your husband, too) that you scored FREE TICKETS to MONSTER JAM!
